Apprenticeship

The Apprentice Training Program is a two-year work-study program designed for high school graduates between the ages of 17-23 who chose not to attend a traditional four- year college dance program. Apprentices train and rehearse with SPDC Company dancers, shadow teach in our award winning arts integration work with schools and build career skills through a variety of opportunities in press, marketing, administration, box office and behind the scenes alongside our Technical Director. For more information and to see if you qualify please contact: director@soniaplumbdance.org.

*Funding for the Apprentice Training Program 2021/2022 season for our BIOPC young adults is generously supported in part by the Ensworth Charitable Foundation. To Sponsor an Apprentice please contact: development@soniaplumbdance.org.

Expectations

Apprentices in the training program are expected to adhere to the same requirements as the professional Company dancers:

  • Take class consistently and arrive on time;
  • Communicate in a timely manner about tardiness and/or absences;
  • Meet regularly with the Apprentice Supervisor;
  • Fill out self-evaluation forms twice per semester;
  • Turn off cell phones during work hours unless needed for emergencies or tasks in relation to work.

Testimonials

This program is important to me because without it I would not be dancing or receiving any dance training at all. I am tremendously grateful for this program because it has allowed me to not only grow as a dancer/artist but as a person as well. Also, it has given me a chance to communicate and connect with many different people. I consider myself to be extremely lucky to be a part of this amazing program. – Yoeliz Santana
