Water Wonder: Pk-2

What are the phases of the water cycle? How do you use water? What are the seasons? What is ice? Snow? Rain? What animals live in the water? Workshops begin with a group discussion followed by a physical warm-up. Classes are then broken into small groups to create dance stories based on their discoveries. Workshops include water-themes books and videos. Friends and family are invited to an info-rmance where students share what they have learned.

Water World: Grades 6-8

What are the properties of water? What percent of our body is made up of water? Can you move like a water molecule in liquid form? How about as a gas? How is climate change affecting our world? Workshops begin with a group discussion about water-themed topics, including the water cycle, climate change and water scarcity. Students are then taken through a physical warm-up incorporating water themed movement. Classes are then broken into small groups to create movement stories based on their discoveries. Students share their discoveries in a final showing.

Waves - Sound and Light: Grades 2-5

Exploring the science behind sound and light, students learn about vibration, how sound travels through some objects and not others, how light can be opaque, translucent or refracted, and more. Using these concepts, students then are asked: How do we use light and sound to express emotions and feelings? Why do some sounds aggravate us while others soothe? Do some colors make us sad while other colors make us happy? Creative work is developed based on age-appropriate stories. Students use movement and text to create a piece that is enhanced by their choice of music and lighting. Access to stage lighting can also add to the learning experience.

Turning the Triangle: Geometry and Dance Grades 3/4/5

Using oversized protractors and the angles created by the body, students about right angles, acute, obtuse, polygons and so much more. Angles. Students then apply these concepts to the body in motion for an immersive, physical program moving through space by turning, jumping and walking in the shapes they have formed. Taking the concept further, students can then create dances based on their discoveries, laying the foundation for patterns, symmetry and hierarchy in 5th grade. A fun way to develop flexible thinking!

Privacy Settings: Grades 6-8

In this program students dig into the messages behind social media platforms and the effect it has on their personal lives and choices. Discussions include the themes of “Are All Media Messages Constructed? How do Media Messages Shape Our Perceptions of Reality? And “What are the commercial implications behind social media content.” Students create movement stories using the “selfie” theme to give a final presentation of their dance/multimedia story to the class.

Penelope’s Odyssey: Grades 8-12

Arts Infusion including in-classroom visits, workshops and an offsite performance provide high school students with an inspirational and exciting approach to The rom the women’s point of view. Greek culture and mythology: The Greeks held and still do hold, deep belief in the value of the humanities, arts and philosophy to transform and inform. The myths are anchors for explaining how and why we humans act and behave the way we do, and how we are supposed to act and behave. The epic nature of “The Odyssey” is very much like the TV episodes of today that provide a through line to deeper understanding. Large-scale projections, fast paced choreography and underwater dance are an enticing introduction to this 3,000 year-old classic myth.

Penelope’s Odyssey: Collegiate/University

Diving deep into the role of women in past and present cultures, Penelope’s Odyssey is a contemporary approach to a timeless and relevant myth of epic proportions.
