Fire or Ice and Ritmo Del Sol were conceived and choreographed as a response to breaking down cultural barriers, seen and unseen, regionally, nationally and internationally. Seeing the divide between Hartford’s heavily minority based cultures and the surrounding less diverse towns and municipalities, Plumb sought to confront what was happening locally and worldwide.

Fire or Ice

In Fire or Ice, two heads of State cross borders and cultural barriers to learn from each other through the language of dance. Mutual understanding is played out in a duet breaking down assumptions of power based on race and gender equality.

Ritmo Del Sol

In the continuation of breaking down borders, the Company members and Apprentices of SPDC demonstrate through the fusion of breakdancing, modern and Latin dance, that diverse communities can indeed learn from each other and play in the same sandbox.
